In fact, Salerno was so overwhelmed, he wants to spend his 80th birthday by personally baking FREE Scamorza Pizzas for everyone who stops by to say goodbye, the restaurant said on Facebook.

Open for over 75, the restaurant will close its doors in July, but not before Carlo himself bakes the free pies on Saturday, July 8, beginning at 4 p.m.

"Please stop by and wish him a Happy Retirement," the restaurant said on Facebook. "Come munch on the exact Scamorza pizza his parents baked and helped make popular in 1947."

The word is Salerno wants to personally thank everyone who stops in for being a customer and to say a final goodbye.

So, make sure you head to Salerno's and get a free pie, but not before you bestow the Stratford king of pies, with his rightful due.

The restaurant is located at 1398 Barnum Ave., Stratford.
